About Choctaw Jail Status
The Choctaw County Jail page needs a different frame than a standard county jail page. WTOK reported in 2021 that the Choctaw jail had been closed for almost two years after fire marshal action and safety concerns. The report said Choctaw inmates had been housed first at Clarke County and then at Washington County. That makes out-of-county housing a release-record issue because the physical release counter may not be the same office that holds the Choctaw legal custody record.
WTOK later reported on July 9, 2025 that officials broke ground for a new jail in Butler on the former jail site. The report described a roughly 15-month construction period, followed by an additional two-to-three-month period before the jail population timeline. Until a later source verifies that the new jail is open and populated, the safer wording is Choctaw County Jail / sheriff jail function.
