Parole and Probation Compared
Probation and parole are both supervision records, but they do not prove the same kind of release. Probation usually starts from a court sentence. A Choctaw County court may order probation after a plea, conviction, split sentence, revocation decision, or other sentencing event. The court file explains the sentence, and the supervising agency record explains reporting conditions if the supervision is state-managed.
Parole is different. It applies to a person who has been in Alabama Department of Corrections custody and is released before the sentence fully expires under Alabama Board of Pardons and Paroles authority. Mandatory supervision is also state supervision, but it is a statutory release mechanism coordinated by ADOC and ABPP rather than a discretionary parole grant.

Definition note. A person can be released from Choctaw County sheriff custody and still have supervision obligations. Release from the jail book answers "when did sheriff custody end?" Probation or parole records answer "what supervision remains?"
Verify Choctaw Supervision
Start by deciding whether the release was local jail release, state prison release, or a court sentence to probation. A person who bonded out from the Choctaw County Jail / Choctaw County Sheriff's jail function may not have any ABPP record. A person released from ADOC on parole, mandatory supervision, or state-supervised probation may have ABPP records even after the county jail roster no longer shows the person.
- Check the Choctaw court case through Choctaw County court resources or Alacourt to identify sentence, probation order, bond, dismissal, transfer, or revocation status.
- For a county jail exit, ask the Choctaw County Sheriff's Office for the jail-book or prisoner release record showing the order and date of release under Ala. Code Section 36-22-8.
- If the person was sentenced to ADOC, search ADOC while the person is currently incarcerated and note the AIS number, commit county, parole status, parole consideration date, and minimum release date.
- Use ABPP hearing pages for parole events. The scheduled hearings page, current-year results page, hearing minutes, and hearing-result posts can show whether parole was granted, denied, continued, reset, or subject to special conditions.
- When a parole grant has not turned into an actual release, contact ABPP Public Information. ABPP identifies an option for questions about an inmate granted parole but not yet released.
- If supervision is assigned to Choctaw County, contact the Butler Field Office for appropriate public verification or reporting guidance.
Do not treat an ABPP result as a complete jail release file. Parole results explain board action for ADOC inmates. The county release record still comes from the sheriff or the court when the original custody was a Choctaw jail matter.
Butler Field Office
The local ABPP office serving Choctaw County is concrete and local, not just a Montgomery headquarters reference. The Butler Field Office is located in the Choctaw County Courthouse, the same South Mulberry records hub used by the sheriff and courts. Use it for Choctaw supervision questions where ABPP is the record owner.

Parole Hearings and Results
Parole hearing pages are useful when the person was an ADOC inmate considered for release to supervision. ABPP publishes a scheduled parole hearings page, current-year parole results, previous-year results, hearing minutes, and hearing-result posts. Those pages are not Choctaw jail feeds, but they can answer whether a prison inmate's parole case moved forward.
The current-year results page explains that special conditions are found in the minutes for the date the hearing was held. It also explains that a reset date is the first month and year the person can be considered for a future docket, not the date of a new hearing. Hearing-result posts may summarize counts of grants, denials, and continuances. If parole is granted, ABPP still has to verify the home plan and coordinate with ADOC before release is scheduled, so the grant date and actual release date can differ.
Conditions and Absconders
Supervision conditions are case-specific. A public page may show that parole was granted, denied, continued, reset, revoked, or that a person is delinquent, but the full list of reporting rules and special conditions may require the minutes, court order, or agency contact. ADOC definitions describe Parole Status as whether a person is currently on parole, declared delinquent, or revoked.
ABPP's Absconder Alerts page is statewide. It is useful if a person on supervision has been publicly listed as an absconder, but it is not a Choctaw County warrant list and it is not a list of everyone recently released from Choctaw jail. The research found search-result evidence for a Choctaw sheriff warrant page, but direct access to sheriff-site jail pages failed, so do not rely on an unavailable local web page to resolve supervision status.
If an absconder alert appears, treat it as a supervision alert that should be confirmed through ABPP or law enforcement. If no alert appears, that does not certify clean supervision status; it only means that specific public alert channel did not show the person.
When Supervision Ends
Supervision can end by sentence completion, discharge, revocation resolution, court order, parole termination, or completion of mandatory supervision. The record owner matters. A Choctaw court sentence or jail credit issue starts with the Choctaw Circuit Clerk and court file. An ADOC release calculation starts with ADOC. A parole or mandatory supervision status starts with ABPP.
This matters when someone believes a release record is wrong. ADOC says the Minimum Release Date can change when the circuit clerk sends new cases or sentence changes, and ADOC defines Jail Credit as time spent in county jail before sentencing, prepared by the circuit clerk of the sentencing county. For a Choctaw-sentenced ADOC inmate, a correction path may require both ADOC records and Choctaw court records, not just a call to the supervision office.
