Booking Photos and Release
A booking photo is tied to an arrest or custody intake. It may help identify the right person or the right booking, but it does not by itself show that the person was released. In Choctaw County, the durable release record is the sheriff's prisoner record book required by Ala. Code Section 36-22-8, which includes commitment and release order/date information for prisoners received into county jail.
Alabama mugshot policy is not uniform. The research cites the National Conference of State Legislatures summary that Alabama does not specifically address mugshot availability by statute, leaving decisions to investigative-agency discretion and creating inconsistent policies. No Choctaw-specific booking-photo release policy was found. That means this page should not promise a free public photo for every released person.
Use booking photos as leads. For official release proof, pair the photo source with the sheriff jail book, Choctaw court case, ADOC status, ABPP supervision record, or other agency record that explains custody.
Where Mugshots May Appear
The Choctaw sheriff's site appeared in search results with "Weekly Mugshots," "Recent Arrests," "Who's in Jail," and "Inmate Booking" channels, but direct access failed during research. Those channels, if reachable later, should be treated as booking or arrest visibility channels, not as a release archive.

Request a Booking Photo
For a Choctaw County booking photo, start with a narrow, purpose-neutral request to the Choctaw County Sheriff's Office. The official county page lists Sheriff Scott Lolley at Choctaw County Courthouse, 117 South Mulberry, Suite 11, Butler, AL 36904-2557, phone (205) 459-2166. The same sheriff page identifies the sheriff as county jailor and jail docket keeper.
- Identify the person by full name and, if known, approximate date of birth, booking or arrest date, charge, and Choctaw case number.
- Ask whether the booking photograph for that specific booking is available as a public record.
- Ask for the jail-book entry or prisoner intake/release record showing commitment and release order/date under Ala. Code Section 36-22-8.
- Ask whether the person was physically housed in Choctaw County or in another county jail when booked or released.
- Ask whether any active-investigation limit, juvenile or Youthful Offender restriction, sealed record, expungement order, safety limit, fee, or format rule applies.
- Confirm the pickup, mail, email, or inspection method before paying any fee.
If the photo relates to a state-prison commitment, use ADOC records as well. ADOC public-records requests must be submitted in writing on ADOC Form 23-A with the processing fee, and ADOC lists public.records@doc.alabama.gov and Central Records at (334) 353-9738.
Registry and News Photos
ALEA's registry path is narrow. ALEA says not all offenders are available for public dissemination because of juvenile, Youthful Offender, or out-of-state status, and local law enforcement forwards registration information to ALEA. The Community Information Center may show registry-related photos for covered public records, but it is not a list of all people released from Choctaw custody.
Local news and sheriff press releases may publish photos for specific incidents. The research identified WTOK stories about the Choctaw jail closure and new jail groundbreaking, and search-result evidence of sheriff social or arrest-report snippets. News photos can help identify an event, but they do not create a complete booking-photo archive and should not replace the official release record.
Third-Party Photo Sites
Search engines may surface commercial arrest-photo or data-aggregation pages. This site does not link to commercial mugshot, data-broker, or pay-to-remove pages. The research supports using third-party material only as a secondary lead when an official record cannot be located quickly.
If a third-party page conflicts with official records, use the official record owner. For county booking and release, that is the Choctaw County Sheriff's Office and the Choctaw court case. For state prison custody, use ADOC and ABPP. For a registry photo, use ALEA's public registry path if the person is a publicly disseminated registrant.
Public Record Limits
Public access can change because of juvenile status, Youthful Offender treatment, sealed records, expungement, active-investigation concerns, security limits, or agency policy. Alabama Title 15, Chapter 27 governs expungement, and ALEA's expungement page says Alabama courts grant expungements, not ALEA. If a record has been expunged, sealed, or restricted by court order, ordinary public access may change.

Confirm any public-record status with the agency or court that owns the record.
