Scheduled Versus Actual Release
ADOC uses the term Minimum Release Date for the release-date field that matters most to a Choctaw-sentenced state prisoner. ADOC defines it as the earliest scheduled date an inmate can be released to probation or end of sentence. That is a scheduled calculation, not a promise that the gate event will happen exactly as first displayed.
Important distinction. A scheduled or minimum date is a current estimate based on sentence data, jail credit, good time, court changes, and disciplinary history. The actual release is the event shown later by the releasing agency record: sheriff release order/date for county custody, ADOC or ABPP record for prison release or supervision, and the court case for the legal reason behind the release.
A Choctaw pretrial case usually has no projected release date. Bond, recognizance release, dismissal, court-order release, transfer, or sentencing can change custody quickly. For that category, start with the Choctaw County Sheriff's Office and the Choctaw court case rather than ADOC.
Find the Release Date
Use a custody-type sequence instead of a one-size search. Choctaw County's local jail history and out-of-county housing caveat make this especially important because a person may be held for Choctaw charges while the physical housing is elsewhere.
- For a Choctaw jail detainee, call the sheriff at (205) 459-2166 and ask whether the person is held, released, transferred, or housed out of county.
- Ask for the jail-book or prisoner record entry showing commitment and release order/date under Ala. Code Section 36-22-8 if the question is a county jail release.
- Check the Choctaw County court record for bond, disposition, sentence, probation, transfer to ADOC, or later court orders.
- If the person was sentenced to ADOC, use the ADOC inmate search while the person is currently incarcerated. Search by AIS number when available; otherwise search by first and last name.
- Record the AIS number, commit county, case number, sentence fields, Minimum Release Date, Parole Consideration Date, Parole Status, Jail Credit, Good Time Received, and Good Time Revoked.
- If the person has already left ADOC and no longer appears online, use ADOC public records, ABPP supervision records, Alabama VNS/VINELink notifications, and the Choctaw court case.
ADOC says its online database contains currently incarcerated inmates only and historical data is not available online. That makes the online search strongest before release. After release, the path shifts to agency records and supervision channels.
Good Time and Jail Credit
Alabama good time is governed by Ala. Code Section 14-9-41, the Correctional Incentive Time statute. For eligible prisoners, the statute creates earning classes: Class I can earn 30 days for each 30 days actually served, Class II can earn 15 days for each 30 days actually served, Class III can earn 5 days for each 30 days actually served, and Class IV earns no correctional incentive time.
The statute also excludes categories of prisoners from correctional incentive time, including Class A felonies, life or death sentences, sentences over 15 years, certain crimes causing death by deadly weapon, and child sex offenses as defined by the referenced law. It restricts Class I placement for some serious offenses and provides forfeiture rules when disciplinary violations occur.
For county jail sentences, the same statute matters because subsection (h) says the section is administered by the sheriff as it applies to prisoners in any county jail. The research did not find a Choctaw-specific published weekend-release policy, local good-time policy, or local release-time rule. Do not assume one. Confirm a Choctaw County jail sentence release with the sheriff and sentencing court.
Jail Credit is a separate field. ADOC defines it as county jail time before sentencing, prepared by the circuit clerk of the sentencing county. For a Choctaw-sentenced ADOC inmate, the Choctaw Circuit Clerk record may be needed if the jail-credit number appears wrong or if a sentence change has not reached ADOC.
Why Dates Change
Projected release dates move when the underlying records move. ADOC specifically says Minimum Release Date can change if the inmate receives disciplinaries that take away good time or if the circuit clerk sends new cases or changes the current sentence.

Mandatory Supervision and Parole
Mandatory supervision is not the same as discretionary parole or good time. ADOC and ABPP describe releases under Ala. Code Section 15-22-26.2 for eligible inmates with offenses on or after January 30, 2016. The research notes exclusions for child sex offenses and life sentences and says victim-notice compliance is required.
ABPP guidance describes mandatory release windows by sentence length: three to five months before end-of-sentence for sentences of five years or less, six to nine months for more than five but less than 10 years, and 12 to 24 months for 10 years or more. ADOC determines the mandatory release date and coordinates with ABPP.
Parole eligibility is calculated under Ala. Code Section 15-22-28(e), according to ABPP. The calculation can depend on sentence, crime, jail credit, ability to earn good time, time served, and sentencing-court orders. A parole set date does not guarantee release during that month; it means the file will be processed after eligibility.
Confirm the Final Date
For a same-person release check, pair the release-date source with the record that actually controls custody. Use the sheriff and court for a Choctaw jail release, ADOC for state prison custody, ABPP for parole or mandatory supervision, Alabama VNS/VINELink for alerts, BOP for federal custody, and ICE ODLS only for immigration detention.
